Office of the Senior Court Registrar - Duties

As head officer, the Senior Court Registrar oversees the Judicial Administration Clerks who work in the Supreme Court, exercising the authority provided for this purpose by the Organic Law on the Judiciary, as well as any powers established by regulations (Article 464.2 LOPJ).

The Senior Court Registrar also acts as Registrar of the Governing Chamber and of the special chambers (Court for Conflicts of Jurisdiction, Chamber for Conflicts of Jurisdiction, Chamber for Conflicts of Competence and Chamber for Article 61 of the Organic Law on the Judiciary).

The Senior Court Registrar has the right to speak but not to vote in the Governing Chamber, reports on the cases brought before the Chamber, is present while they are discussed and voted on, drafts the minutes noting the people present and including all the decisions adopted, keeps custody of the book of records and issues the appropriate certifications, where necessary.

In addition, in all cases affecting judicial offices or Judicial Administration Clerks under the Senior Court Registrar that require action of some type, he or she may issue reports, either on his or her own initiative or at the request of the Chamber. In these cases, the Senior Court Registrar shall have the right to vote on the decision that may be adopted (Article 152.1.12 LOPJ).

The Office of the Senior Court Registrar processes staff-related and administrative proceedings.
